This was a groundbreaking project, requiring new levels of precision to deliver the tightest of tolerances both in manufacture and in the construction of the slender 7.5m² slip-formed core.
Occupying a prominent site on the corner of Empire Way, the 29-storey building provides 580 student rooms for Scape in a variety of types and sizes, including wheelchair-accessible units. It was one of the first volumetric buildings to secure a BREEAM Excellent rating and has won a string of awards including Building magazine’s Offsite Project of the Year.
Volumetric manufacture accounted for more than 80% of construction, but less than a third of total construction time.
